Our RV Launch Plan: The Countdown to Full-Time RV Living is On!

Full-Time RV Living Countdown (hand holding a clock)

Six weeks.
That’s all that stands between us and full-time RV living.

This past weekend, we got serious. And by “serious,” I mean we printed out an actual calendar, spread it across the dining table, and started sticking tasks onto actual dates. Why? Because the “we’ll get to it eventually” approach was starting to feel like a Netflix series with too many seasons… lots of drama, no real conclusion.

Now, every big (and small) task between now and Launch Day has a home on the calendar. We’ve officially gone from “winging it” to “holding ourselves accountable”. It feels both empowering and mildly terrifying.

The To-Do List for Full-Time RV Living: A Masterpiece in Controlled Chaos

Here’s what’s still ahead for us before we officially hit the road and dive into full-time RV living:

  • Pack like pros (or at least like people who know which box the coffee mugs are in)
  • Rent a U-Haul over Labor Day weekend to move furniture and garage items into storage
  • Touch up and repair the houses so they’re picture-perfect for potential buyers
  • Take the RV to the Freightliner dealer for a chassis inspection and scheduled maintenance
  • Deep clean both houses before they officially go on the market (goodbye dust bunnies, you’ve had a good run)
  • Dispose of hazardous materials like old electronics, batteries, and mystery cans of paint and varnish at the county collection site
  • Last-minute RV supply shopping – because you always forget something and need that one last trip to Ikea
  • Host a 2-day yard sale to rehome our “we don’t need this” piles
  • Donate the leftovers to charity before heading out of town
  • Hutch’s two remaining fantasy football drafts (because apparently there’s no “RV prep” exemption for league commitments)

The Sanity-Saving Secret: Breather Time Before Full-Time RV Living

We built the plan with enough breathing room so that if something takes longer than expected (and it will), we won’t be frantically packing boxes at midnight.

Five weeks from now, we’re pulling the Super C out of storage and moving into a local RV park with full hookups for a week. Yes, full hookups were non-negotiable. Trying to move into an RV in Florida in August without blasting the A/C? Absolutely not.

That week will be our soft launch into full-time RV living:

  • We’ll sanitize the water system and tanks
  • Move everything in
  • Organize our tiny home-on-wheels
  • Give Gypsy and Fallon a chance to sniff every corner and claim their favorite nap spots

And Then… Our Full-Time RV Living Adventure Begins

On September 20th, both houses will be officially on the market, the RV will be stocked and ready, and we’ll point our wheels toward the town where my parents live a few hours north of St. Petersburg.

It’s the start of our full-time RV living adventure.
We’re equal parts excited, nervous, and wondering if we’ve forgotten something important.

Probably. But that’s just part of the fun.

Your turn: Have you ever planned a big move or trip with a hard deadline? Did your “perfect” plan survive reality? Let’s hear your stories in the comments – bonus points if they involve last-minute chaos or forgotten items.
