No More Sticks and Bricks: RV Life For Beginners

No More Sticks & Bricks - RV Life For Beginners (text on a background showing home under construction against a blue sky with clouds)

Hi there! We’re Hutch and Stephanie – two foodies, dog parents, garden murderers (oops), and now, full-time RV life hopefuls. We currently live in St. Petersburg, Florida, with our two Havanese pups, Gypsy and Fallon. Hutch is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, Star Wars nerd, woodworker, and craps enthusiast. Stephanie is a digital marketing pro, baking junkie, and dog whisperer who almost always greets four-legged friends before humans.

For years, we lived the “American Dream”: houses, routines, and more garden casualties than we care to count (Florida sun and bugs, why you gotta be like that?). But recently, life threw us a curveball that made us rethink everything.

Why We Hit the Brakes on Traditional Living

Stephanie’s parents live in Levy County, Florida, and they’re not quite as spry as they used to be. We knew we needed to be nearby to help out, but investing in real estate in that area just didn’t feel right. So, after a few marathon YouTube binges, a spreadsheet full of pros and cons, and more “are we really doing this?” moments than we’d like to admit, we made the leap.

We’re selling both of our homes in the Tampa Bay area and going mobile. That’s right baby, it’s time for to experience full-time RV living for beginners!

Why? Because flexibility is freedom. Stephanie has been working remotely since 2018, so she can do her job from pretty much anywhere with Wi-Fi and some snacks. We wanted a lifestyle that lets us be close to family and gives us the chance to chase sunsets when the time is right.

Meet Our New Digs: A Jayco Seneca Super C

After weeks of research (and more YouTube rabbit holes), we landed on a gently used 2023 Jayco Seneca Super C. This isn’t your average motorhome. It’s got the power we need to tow our MINI on a trailer, the safety of a front engine, and the kind of space that makes full-time RV life actually livable. Think of it as a cozy apartment… on diesel-fueled steroids.

So far, we’ve added a ceramic coating to protect the exterior (Florida bugs are not to be messed with) and installed Tyron safety bands on the front wheels in case of blowouts. We haven’t moved in yet, but we’re dreaming up interior tweaks, decor ideas, and storage hacks that will make this space truly ours.

Short-Term Plan: Stayin’ Local, Dreamin’ Big

We plan to move into the RV in late summer or early fall of 2025, parking ourselves at an RV resort near Stephanie’s parents for the short term. (Think full-time 50 Amp hookups to run those dual A/C units – these Florida summers ain’t no joke!) While we won’t be roaming far right away, we definitely have our eyes set on future adventures. Think national parks, state parks, and anywhere we can soak in some nature, grill some good eats, and take the dogs for new sniffs.

Work during the week, explore on the weekends – that’s the rhythm we’re aiming for.

What You Can Expect From Our Blog

We’re new to RV life, so expect rookie mistakes, laughs at our expense, and hopefully some valuable lessons for anyone considering this lifestyle. Our blog will feature:

  • Stories from the road (or the RV resort)
  • Tips for traveling with dogs
  • Product reviews (what we love, what we regret buying, and why)
  • Interior design and DIY updates
  • How we cook like foodies in a tiny RV kitchen
  • Remote work hacks on the go

Basically, if we experience it, you’ll read about it here – honestly, humorously, and with a hefty side of real life. This is full-time RV living for beginners people. Mistakes will definitely be made!

Join Us for the Ride

This is just the beginning. We’re excited, nervous, and fully aware that we have no clue what we’re doing. But that’s kind of the point, right? Life’s too short to stay put. So we’re packing up, moving out, and embracing the unknown. One campsite, one blog post, and one burnt s’more at a time.

See you on the road (or in the comments)!
