Buying an RV: How We Finalized Our Jayco Seneca Purchase

Our Jayco Seneca purchase (image of the front of a Jayco Seneca RV)

After a long day at the dealership in Ocala, Hutch and I had a lot to talk about on the drive home. We rehashed every RV we’ve toured so far, comparing features, quality, and value. Some of the 5th wheels we saw at the RV show even crept back into the conversation.

The truth was settling in – our original budget didn’t match our must-have list. We had to ask ourselves the tough questions. Were we ready to stretch our spending to get the quality and layout we truly wanted? Was buying an RV still the right move, or should we consider renting something near my parents for the next couple of years?

We even revisited the truck debate: Should Hutch invest in a new truck to tow a 5th wheel, or stick with looking at Super C motorhomes? These weren’t quick or easy conversations, but we needed to have them.

By the time we called it a night, we were finally on the same page. We both really liked the Jayco Seneca. It checked our boxes, felt like a smart choice, and just made sense. But we also agreed that if the dealership couldn’t meet us on price, we’d walk. No pressure, no rush. The houses aren’t even on the market yet. We had time.

The next morning started like any other – caffeine, a little snacky snack, the dogs, a bit of work. But in the back of our minds, we were waiting for that call.

A few hours later, it came. Our sales rep let us know: the Seneca was ours. Eeeep!

We officially put down a deposit and got to work scheduling a full RV inspection. Because when you’re buying an RV, especially a big purchase like this, an inspection is a must.

Want to know how the inspection went? We’ll share all the details in an upcoming post—stay tuned!
