Camping World… Really a ‘World’? Our First RV Store Visit!

Camping World... Really A World? Our First RV Store Visit (backlit tent against a twilight outdoor background with trees)

So, we’re new to RV life – and when I say new, I mean wildly underprepared and basically drinking from a firehose of information. It’s exciting, sure, but also a bit overwhelming. After days of stressing over our upcoming RV inspection, we figured we needed a break. What better way to reset than a little retail therapy? We ended up deciding to check out Camping World. We’d heard from countless RV YouTubers that it’s the place for RVers, so why not see what all the fuss was about?

A quick search later – thanks, Lord Google – and we discovered there was one nearby. It was already 4:30, and they closed at 6, so we had an entire debate… is it even worth going if we’ll only have an hour? Apparently, the answer was yes, because the next thing we knew, we were pulling into the parking lot in the MINI.

From the moment we arrived, it was pretty clear this wasn’t what we’d expected. RVs were everywhere, filling nearly every inch of the lot. We had imagined Camping World as a giant specialty store, kind of like REI but for RV people. You know, with aisles and aisles of gadgets, gear, and must-haves for the road. I mean, it’s called Camping WORLD, right? You hear “world,” you expect something big. Like Disney World. Or World Market. A place where you’d need a map and maybe a snack to get through it all.

Instead, what we found was a small showroom with a few shelves of supplies. We thought we’d spend at least an hour making a mega shopping list and soaking up all the knowledge. In reality, we were in and out in about 15 minutes. And that’s being generous.

Was it a letdown? Sure. But we also couldn’t stop laughing at how different it was from our expectations. Now, whenever one of us throws our arms in a big circle and says “Camping… WORLD,” it’s an instant inside joke.

So here’s our question: is that how all Camping Worlds are? Or did we just hit the least stocked location in the country? Let us know if you’ve had a different experience. We’re still hopeful this wasn’t the whole story. Maybe there’s a truly “worldly” Camping World out there waiting for us?
